I am currently working on my first official counter-strike map. I am trying to choose a lighting setup so I decided to do an extensive case study. I haven’t found any good examples of lighting setup over the same location. So I did it myself.
I used the lighting setups of most official counter-strike maps, and I used it over the same location to show how the light changes. It is much easier to see the difference when you are comparing to the same screenshot.
Now of course it will differ on your maps depending on how objects are placed. But the idea is similar.
Pay attention to light color, light ambience, shadow direction and length all help to describe the mood, atmosphere and the time of day.
All of these also have the proper value settings to use in your custom Counter-Strike maps.
