Maya/UE5: How to Match Grid Size and Dimensions in Maya to UE5 - EXPLAINED

Category: Maya, UE5
April 29, 2022

Setting the grid up in Maya to match UE5 is very important prior to modeling any prop or environment.

Here is how to get this ratio 1-to-1 and match grid spacing between Maya and Unreal Engine 5.

Maya and UE5 both use centimeters.

Maya Grid Options

In Maya go to Display and Grid Options. Set up the following properties:

  • Length and width: 1,000 units (size of the overall grid appearing in the viewport, change this any time to make the grid cover larger area)
  • Grid lines every: 10 units (actual size of each grid unit; change this to match grid spacing in UE5)
  • Subdivisions: 1 (set this to 1 and do not change it)

In UE5 you have ability to adjust grid spacing in the viewport:

  • [ ] Bracket Keys = Increase/Decrease Grid Spacing

You can measure things in UE5 by going to Orthographic Viewport:

  • Middle Mouse Click and Drag = Measuring Tool

Now anything you create in Maya will directly translate to UE5, to the same size and dimensions as well as being on the grid.
