L4D: Creating a LadderJune 06, 2009
|
||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Creating a ladder that our character can climb to escape from the zombies for just a few seconds is simple. Watch the video to find out how and check out the notes.
Additional notes included below.
L4D Mapping: Creating a Ladder - Video Tutorial
Notes:
1. Place prop_static entity where you want your ladder to go. This will be the ladder you will climb. This is not a ladder you can actually climb yet.
If you don't know how to add a prop_static into your map, see Adding Props Tutorial.
2. Create a brush with 'nodraw' texture on it. Position it in front of the ladder and make sure it is 2 units in depth.
3. Apply 'Ladder' texture to the front of the brush face.
4. Select your newly created ladder brush and press Cntrl+T or click toEntity.
5. Choose func_ladder

Thank you very much Seefer for the feedback. Thats a great comment.
Glad you are enjoying them. It means a lot to me. No problem about the double comment. :)

Oops, sorry about the duplicate comments. I got a connection error from
Internet Explorer when I clicked submit, so I thought it had been lost, so
I clicked Back button and resubmitted.
Guess that's Internet Explorer 8 for you...maybe I should migrate to Firefox :)
Seefer 08 Jun 2009, 08:45 Hi. Great work on these tutorials. They're one of the best available. The only imrpovement I can suggest is in regards to the capture rate of the videos, which I think is a little too slow for easy viewing. Things can get a little disorienting if you are zipping around the interface in a speedy manner and your capture rate is a little too slow. It's especially disconverting when you are panning and rotating your level or geometry or rapidly going to menus and selecting entries. To you it will look fine as you are doing it but the slower capture rate means things are a little more difficult to follow when viewing the videos. If upping the capture rate is not possible due to file-size considerations, I would imagine the best way to counteract things is to slow down your real-time navigation about the interface so that viewers of the videos have a better time tracking the mouse and all your actions. Thanks again for your time in sharing your knowledge...it's greatly appreciated.

Good to hear Mat. Can't wait to see what you come up with.

Love the fact that you have done them in video. Going to look at a L4D map
when I am done with the current map. So I will watch though all these as I
have yet to use source much.
