Creating addoninfo.txt and missions.txt to make sure our poster and all the files run properly
Copy/Paste our map into maps folder
Create a VPK to distribute our map in a single file
L4D Mapping: Create a Custom Movie Poster and VPK Part 3/3 - Video Tutorial
Notes:
Compile your finished map and located 2 files.
One is .bsp file and .nav file. They can be found in
C:\Program Files\Steam\SteamApps\common\left 4 dead\left4dead\maps
Copy and paste these two files inside your maps folder that we created in the beginning of the tutorial.
We now need to create two text files
addoninfo.txt
mapname.txt --> missions folder
Use notepad or text editor ofyour choice and create these two files.
addoninfo.txt gets placed inside the root folder.
The content of addoninfo.txt
Also you can view the content of the addoninfo.txt on Valve's Wiki page.
mapname.txt, to be placed inside missions folder. Avoid naming this file mission.txt
The content of swisshotel.txt
Also you can view the content of the mission file.txt on Valve's Wiki page.
Go through both of these files very careful changing every entry that you need for your map to work properly.
Double check to make sure.
Now, lets create a vpk file.
Navigate to:
C:\Program Files\Steam\SteamApps\common\left 4 dead\bin\vpk.exe
and create a desktop shortcut of the vpk.exe by right-mouse click and Send to Desktop as Shortcut.
Take your folder with all our files that we created and drag it over to vpk.exe shortcut.
You now have .vpk file created
Double click on the mapname.vpk to install.
Go inside the game and test.

hi there
for starts great tutos was a great help when i started mapping...im curently working on my 3rd map of my l4d campaign "2 evil eyes" and i have a question=(i was talking to the very nice man john from wiki valve and we cant seem to find a solution to my problem) After compiling in normal with hdr ticked buildcubemaps done etc etc i jump into my game and its fine no nav erros and i play with shader=very high BUT that is in the bsp+nav format.I sent it to some mates to beta test it in veryhigh shader and it works great! but the issue is....=as soon as i create my vpk from with my bsp+nav files +materials etc all is fine game thumbnail loading poster etc but all the props are glowing white...so the question is why in my bsp+nav format its fine all the props look brilliant and as soon as they are transformed into a vpk format they glow and ruin my work?............thx a million!
