Illustrated Level Design in Unreal 3 E-Book

June 01, 2009
Category: Books and DVDs

<--L4D: Environment Creation Part 3

L4D: Creating Terrain Displacement-->

I've put together an illustrated workflow of my latest Unreal 3 map. It is more images and not a detailed explanation as in my previous workflow.

The book begins with an idea and a sketch, then quickly develops into a full blow map from Maya Blocking in stages to Unreal 3.

The workflow is applicable to many game engines, and you do not have to map for Unreal 3 in order to learn from it. It is the workflow that is important.

Download it and enjoy.

All I ask is, please spread the word about World of Level Design.

Feel free to share this ebook with others.

It’s Unreal Tournament 3, not Unreal 3.

Cool. Sounds like a good article idea. I'll write it and send it to you by end of the week.

Sorry about the contact form, I didn't get your messege and I recently added alt email and it messed up my contact form. I fixed it now.

That's good news. Would rather get better at Max then learn another and be 'ok' in both.

I sent you a message via the contact form of this site. There were a few ideas I had but I thought since you seem to be quite knowledgable about both Hammer and UnrealEd I thought an article about the positives and negatives of using each would be great, especially to new level designers. Can be as long as you like :)

Hey Kayleigh,

I'm sorry, I haven't received it. Where did you send it? If you can, send it again.

About 3ds max and maya. 3ds max is just as good. Since you already familiar with Max, stick with that. They are both extremely powerful packages and it is just a matter of preference.

Hey Alex

I hope you got my message about that article for TI. Anyway, I wanted to know whether Maya was best to model and import objects into UnrealEd or is 3Ds max just as good? I was taught Max at university but am learning UnreaEd now. Have you found a difference between these two tools?
